Mozztronics TD-900 4100 Boost Tube Drive Pedal
More infoOne of our favourite amps is the 900 British amp, model 4100.
This is a 2 channel beast of an amp, with a glorious hi gain channel, which on the amp is called the “Boost” channel.
We took the whole Boost channel preamp circuit from the amp and fitted it inside a pedal. We use an actual 12AX7 tube inside just as the amp does, but we run that tube at a higher gain than the amp does and we run the tube at proper amp high voltage. We’ve gone old school here, we use circuits that were used to generate high voltage in old time television sets to generate the high voltage for the tube in this pedal.
This pedal does medium to high drive and is great for medium to heavy crunch and uber gain. Turn up the gain and pinch harmonics fly off the fret board. Turn the output volume up to slam the front end of your amp and hear it sing.
This pedal responds like an amplifier would, roll the guitar volume back and the pedal responds, dig in hard on the strings and the pedal responds. We here at Mozztronics like to think of this pedal as an extension of your amplifier.
GAIN controls the amount of overdrive from a medium crunch to a searing screaming overdrive, BASS, MID and TREBLE are the 3 knob tone stack as found in the actual 4100 amp, and VOLUME adjusts the overall output volume of the pedal. There is a lot of output available here, Start with output volume at 9 o’clock.
As with our other Tube Drive pedals (TD-1 and TD-2) we power this pedal from an external 15VAC to 16VAC supply.
Mozztronics uses the industry standard 2.1mm socket for the power supply connection. Power is from an external 15VAC 0.4A plugpack.
